Driving License Requirements in Thailand
To ride a motorcycle legally in Thailand, you need one of:
- Thai driving license with motorcycle endorsement
- International Driving Permit (IDP) with motorcycle category (A)
Your home country license alone is not valid.

Why It Matters
Without a valid license:
- ฿1,000 fine at police checkpoints
- All insurance voided — claims rejected
- Full personal liability for accident costs
- Possible criminal charges if someone is injured
Common Mistakes
- Assuming a European car license covers scooters (it doesn't)
- Not getting an IDP before travel
- Carrying only a photo copy of your license
- Thinking small scooters don't need a motorcycle license
