When Insurance Doesn't Cover You

Insurance won't always pay out. Know the situations where your coverage is void.

When Your Insurance Won't Pay

Having insurance doesn't guarantee a payout. Here are the most common situations where claims are rejected.

1. No Valid License

The #1 reason claims are denied. You need a Thai license or IDP with motorcycle category.

2. Riding Under the Influence

Any alcohol or drugs in your system voids your coverage completely.

3. Unauthorized Rider

If someone else rides your insured bike without being named on the policy.

4. Racing or Reckless Driving

Insurance excludes competitive racing, stunts, or intentionally reckless behavior.

5. Expired Policy

Always check your policy dates — especially on rental bikes.

6. Unregistered Vehicle

The motorcycle must have valid registration and พ.ร.บ. insurance.

Travel Insurance Exclusions

Most travel insurance policies exclude motorcycle accidents if:

  • You don't have a valid motorcycle license
  • The bike is over 125cc (some policies)
  • You weren't wearing a helmet

Always read your travel insurance fine print before relying on it.
